View Full Version : IE6 Removal

Highly Frustrated but Resolute and Determined
October 2nd 04, 01:04 AM
I sincerely appreciate the help I've received regarding
how to remove malware, but at this point it would be
easier to simply uninstall IE6 and reinstall it.

Is there anybody out there who knows how to do this? The
only options offered under add/remove programs for IE6 are
to either repair the browser or add a component.

Can anyone explain why an option to remove the program is
not available?

Why do you think it is in IE6 instead of some other thing ?

I know IE6 is not responsible for causing the problems
I've been having, but these malware programs seem to
attach themselves as extensions to IE6 and then replicate
from a hidden or disguised source on my machine. IE6,
quite frankly, has been a pain in the ass to run on my
Win98 (Pentium 133) system. It takes up lots of hard disk
space and consumes lots of RAM when loaded. Who needs it?

I'm only running 64MB of physical memory on my system,
anyway, and the idea that a single browser window consumes
5-10 MB just to remain open is ridiculous. I don't want
or need it.

I'm open to other suggestions, but the fact that Microsoft
has apparently made IE6 'uninstallable' really ****es me
off.

Am I correct in that assumption?

If you are the one who was asking about aaa_soft?

If so, did you try to do a FIND for all files that contained the text:
aaa_soft ?

Again, IE questions are best asked in the IE newsgroup.

I know IE6 is not causing the problem. I have other
issues with IE6. It packs a lot of features, but with
increased functionality comes program bloat in memory;
around 5MB per window. These malware programs attached
themselves as extensions and then re-generate themselves
from a hidden source on your system whenever you reboot.
No sooner have you removed one then another appears.

I thought it might be just as effective to unload and
reinstall IE6, then clean up the registry, regenerate a
new copy, and add all the necessary security programs
(like Ad-aware) to protect my system from attack.

I'm tired of hunting down these 'Al Qaeda' malware
programs terrorizing my Internet experience.

I wasn't aware there was an IE newsgroup. I thought this
was it (Internet Browser?).

Yes, I am the one that was asking about aaa_soft.

Anyway, I downloaded a copy of Ad-aware and it uncovered
over 1500 possible infections, including the malicious
entries in aaa_soft. 1500! Wow. I had no idea. My
registry seems clean now, but I did have a pop-up ad
appear while I was posting to this newsgroup. Do you
think that it came from my system or off the Internet?
From now I will post at the IE newsgroup if you tell what
name it goes by.

Like I said, I thought this was the IE newsgroup.

You need to set OE for Newsgroups.

How to Uninstall Internet Explorer 6
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q293907

Or get yourself a copy of a program named "IERadicator"

Please be aware however, removing IE can have adverse affects on the way
Windows functions.
