Dear All,
A few months ago I wrote regarding the loss of the ability to get rid of
the shortcut arrows on icons using tweakui after installing windows
updates. Apart from the flack regarding the philosophy of wishing to
remove the same, I was given some advice which I followed and it worked!
Silly me I failed to file the advice, or I did and lost it! Please can
you point me again to the registry fixes I need to apply.
Kind regards

You were not provided with advice on removing the arrow. You found it for
yourself using Google. The advice you found was "Using regedit to edit the
registry, first of all back it up to a floppy disc and remove the floppy.
Then using find (ctrl-F) replace every occurrence of IsShortcut to
IsShortcutold. Then re-boot and hey presto! If it doesn't work or causes
problems with your computer, reverse the process."

All your posts and the responses are archived at Google.

May I butt in on an Icon matter? I just acquired a network icon in the
lower fast one click bar, and it won't delete. I don't need it there,
as it's in the way, and distracting, help?

Do you mean the lower right-hand corner of the task bar? Right-click the
icon and look for an option to remove it from the systray.

If you can identify the function that the icon gives you access to you may
be able to start it from the Start menu and find out how to prevent it from
loading at startup.

Not the far right, but on the sliding one, and it has it's own slider
too. It won't open properties, but it's connected to network
neighborhood, or network, something.

Adjacent to the Start button? Right-click it and choose Delete.

It won't delete, it's powerful.

Instead of providing info (it's powerful) that is not helpful, tell exactly
what it does when you do try to delete it. If there is an error message,
provide it verbatim. I am not sure what you mean by: "It won't open
properties, but it's connected to network neighborhood, or network,
something." Please provide specific information on what you mean and what
leads you to your conclusions.

I put a picture on alt.binaries.comp-graphics, that says more than I
can. Please look. Right clking doesn't give an option to delete, or
anything one needs, to dispose of it.

When you select properties, what information is displayed? I don't
recognize the globe icon so I don't know what program put it there. The
program is likely being started from one of these locations:

Programs are generally started on boot from the start up folder on the start
menu, the load= and run= lines in the win.ini and these registry run keys:

1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run

3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce

4. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunOnce

5. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\ RunServices

6. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\
RunServicesOnce

7. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\
RunOnce\Setup

There is a freeware program that makes this process a lot easier to manage:
Startup Manager, http://home.ptd.net/~don5408/toolbox/startupcpl/

I wonder if this is related to the new DSL I got last week, it sure
could be. Thanks, too much time spent on this one already.

It could very well be--a globe would go well with DSL. Properties is the
last entry on the context menu you displayed in the picture--it might give
you a definite clue.

It went away on it's own, no clue, just looked, and it was gone, so

I saw your name, but it was taken out by the blocking.
