Hi,

I'd greatly appreaciate any information on the error
condition "Windows Protection Error, System Halted".
You're asked to reboot the system, to no avail, you come
back to the blue screen with the same error message.
The Microsoft Knowledge DateBase list several
possibilities contributing to the boot failure.
The problem, you can't get to the desktop, employing
the 'F5 key, for safe mode', or 'F8 key, for manual
confuration' doesn't work.
All I get is the blue screen, and the 'Windows Protection
Error, System Halted'.
Any suggestons, or is all hope lost? Will I have to
reload the operating system?
Thanks for the help.

Andy

Are you saying that the F5/F8 keys don't bring up the Startup menu? - if so,
then try holding down the CTRL key once the RAM count has completed, and see
if that brings it up.

If so, then choose Safe Mode form the options, and see if that boots OK - if
so then your problem is almost certainly either driver-related, or malware.

post back with your results.

Noel,

Thank you for your prompt response. In either configuration
the 'F5',safe mode pops to a blue screen with the error
message. The same happens in the 'F8', configuration
mode;the screen pops to blue with the error messaage after
a failed boot attempt.
The only changes made, mouse, keyboard, and monitor. With
no access to the desktop, will I have to reload the O/S
and start over again, or is there another work around this
problem?

Thanks Again,

Andrew

No - with any luck we'll be able to get you fixed.....
Look here for instructions on how to get to System Restore - try it and see
if it works.....
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=279736

Go back to a time just before you installed the new drivers, and see if that
works.
