View Full Version : uninstall media player 9

Please someone tell me how to get rid of windows media player 9. I had
version 8 installed and never had a problem. I recently upgraded to version
9, big mistake. Now it locks up and plays whenever it wants to. I can see no
advantage , can't believe why I didn't leave well enough alone. Now I can't
find an uninstaller for what I installed. I have version 8 on cd, so if you
can direct me how to uninstall 9 I would be ever grateful. thank-you

Ray,

You will need to use System Restore to roll your system back to the state
it was in before you installed WMP9. WMP8 is for XP and I don't believe
it can be installed on Win Me.

I know I will be corrected if I'm wrong but I think the only way to
achieve this is by using System Restore to go back to before you installed
it, as long as this is not too long ago.

For the vast majority of people, there's no problem in upgrading WMP to v9 -
it's only usually a problem if either

1 ) you have Norton AV installed and running during the install
2) you have Symantec software installed
3) you have malware/viruses present on your PC
4) you don't follow the instructions
5) you disable System Restore, or have it switched off, or the space
available is not enough.

Good luck - my personal preference is to download this sort of thing for
offline install - disconnect, and then disable firewalls, AV, etc.. - and
then do the install.

I'm still on WMP 7 which came with WinME or IE6 and I haven't actually
found it wanting.
Regards Mike.
