I'm trying to install symantec corporate edition on windows 98 machine. It keeps telling me that I need to install the root certificate update. I have downloaded all updates that I can, but no root certificate update patch. Does anyone know where I can get this? Thanks.

It's a Recommended Update. If it doesn't show in your Windows Update scan,
you might try your "Installed Updates", but those tend to get lost.

If all else fails, use the Windows Catalog.

1. At Windows Update, click on "Personalize Windows Update".
2. Put a check mark in "Show Windows Update Catalog". Save Settings.
3. There will now be a "Windows Update Catalog" showing on the left. Click
on it, then on "Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems"
4. Scroll the selection window until you find the appropriate entry, then
Search.
5. You have to scroll the top to find "Recommended Updates", choose that,
then look for "Root Certificates Update - (Posted Date: April 23, 2004)"

It keeps telling me that I need to install the root certificate update. I
have downloaded all updates that I can, but no root certificate update
patch. Does anyone know where I can get this? Thanks.

Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and click "Scan for updates."
In the left pane, click "Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition."
Scroll through the list until you see "Root Certificates Update."
Click Add.
Click "Review and install updates."
Click "Install Now."
After the update has finished, close the browser and attempt the installation again.

That's true, SAV will not install without the roots cert on W98x

You can get it right at WindowsUpdate itself.. have you tried?

Officially WU is the ideal place to get it, but if you just wanted to
download it quick w/o going to WU then I see you can get it here:
