The reason your getting the error is because you did not read the
instructions correctly;

Type drive:\windows\path\file

where drive is the drive where the Windows folder is installed, generally
drive C, path is the destination of the file that you are extracting, and
file is the file that you want to extract

If Windows is installed on the C:\ drive, then you need to change "drive:"
to "C:"

If you are replacing a file from the CAB folder, then you need to change
"path" to "CAB", followed by the cab filename. For example;

CAB\cab91_01.cab\

.... and "file" is the name of the file you want to restore (e.g. wsock.dll)

Hope this helps.

You must enter the correct items for your PC.
drive = C: or D: or E: etc. -- probably C:
For
C:\windows\path
you must enter
c:\windows\system
or
c:\windows\inf
or whatever is appropriate for
\file
i.e. the name of the particular
file you are trying to restore.

The simplest method may be:
1. Write down correct ultimate destination
for the file you want to restore. Write down the
CAB in which it is stored.
2. Create a new folder / repairs
and copy to /repairs
the extract tool, the CAB etc.
3. In /repairs
EXTract the file you want
4. Move the file to its correct destination.
5. Reboot and test.

My experience has always been that when you run SFC it is smart enough to
know where to put the file.

The user does have to supply the file name and the Path to the CB files.

SFC will ask for the file to be restored then
the destination file.
