I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows. I get
the error message"Invalid VxD dynamic link call to device
3, service B" whenever I try to open Windows in normal
mode. I can successfully open in safe mode, just like the
article #306482 in the Microsoft knowledge base.
I tried all of the resolutions that article said and
nothing works. I even installed a different hard drive from
a salvaged computer with the exact same result.
Any suggestions?
I read that reformatting a hard drive to remove possible
viruses and generally clear up problems was easy to do. Not
for me.

Did you confirm that SYSTEM.INI was missing, and that the procedure in the
KB article enabled you to successfully replace it, and that it is no longer
blank?

I checked for the system.ini file as the KB article said.
It is there, and it contains everything that it is
supposed to. Everything else in the KB article doesn't do
any good either.
Thanks, JG
