View Full Version : Recovering deleted data

I have recently (within the last month) sent some files to the recycle bin
and have since emptied it. There were files in there that I now wish I had
not deleted. Is there any way to retrieve these files using Windows 98?

I also have a free data recovery program, but it requires that I select a
drive other than the C: to save the data to, and I do not have that. I only
have a floppy drive and a CD-RW drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Here's a utility that I have not personally used but is highly
recommended.

Thank you! I've tried it, but no luck. I'm thinking that the particular
sector must have been overwritten since I have added atleast 5 GB of new
information since the file was deleted. Also, I had just defragmented the
hard drive before the file was deleted accidentally. But thanks anyway. I'm
going to keep the program you suggested for future use.

Hi Dan,

I agree. The deleted files are most likely long gone by now.

The defragmentation before you deleted the file was a good thing since
fragmented files cannot really be recovered.

That does not help if you emtied the recycle bin of course.
