I just added DSL and now the HP 842C printer
reboots my machine about half the time.

I already had ethernet card configured but it
was rarely used. I downloaded and reinstalled
the print driver and the HW config says it is
fine. It prints fine from my laptop USB. I tried
RAW instead of EMF mode, no difference.

I have been using this printer for a year OK.
Each reboot (scandisk of course) takes awhile
so trying many things is time consuming...

Quite a stumper?!?

Hi,

try a manual un-installation of the printer. Please see steps below

Steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit and click OK.
2. Delete all the contents of the following registry keys:

•
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Print\Environments\Windows 4.0\Drivers
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Print\Printers

3. Check the following registry key for third-party monitors. Remove any
non-default monitors:

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Print\Monitors

ï?¶ The default port monitors are:

AppleTalk Printing Devices (When Services for Macintosh is installed)
BJ Language Monitor
Local Port
PJL Language Monitor
Standard TCP/IP Port
USB Monitor
Windows NT Fax Monitor

4. Check the following registry key for third-party print providers. Remove
any non-default print providers:

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Print\Providers

ï?¶ The default print providers are:

Microsoft Network Print provider

5. Delete the printer driver folder:

•ï€* Delete C:\Windows\Spool\Printers.

6. Restart Windows.
7. Re-install the printer drivers.
8. Test to see if you are able to print.

Regards,
Kit
