I just bought an older sony vaio running win98 and it
won't recognize the cd/dvd drive. It should be the
original OS and hardware. I know the previous owner
tried to set it up as originally set up. I've tried the
4 fixes that Ron suggested:

1. how do I put marks in the drives
2. yes it reads z
3. also reads z
4. says nothing of msdos

my cd/dvd drive is G and trying to click on it says it's
not accessible. it shows 0 used and 0 free space. any
other ideas?

Thanks!!!!!

hello, i just have one tip here and that is to go to
microsoft knowledge base and look up the article 190303,
the full address is
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-
US;190303. The article gives instructions on how to get
your computer to recognize the cd-rom using files from
your win98 start up disk. goodluck

>oh oh,
I just read the article and on the bottom it said it might
not work for older sony drives, (you may need files
downloaded from manufacturer instead)
