missing components

In buying a used computer, I did not receive the original
software discs and have found several missing
applications, or parts of applications, such as Microsoft
Word and was wondering if there is a way to fix the
problem?

You will have to buy the missing applications like Word or seek
similar replacements.
If you didn't receive the installation media, then I don't see you
have much choice unless you can get them from the previous owner.
