And that is the crux of the problem as stated in my original post.

Thanks to all who posted. I've got the PC running with all the drivers and
the customer is happy.

The turning point was when I found an old, obscure post where someone was
selling the exact same model. The "for sale" post listed all the hardware
in the PC (even the onboard stuff). Using that list, I was able to locate
all the needed drivers.

I have a Sony VAIO model PCV-R553DS, and I have the recovery discs;
unfortunately in talking to the Sony Folks my problem in
recovering my computer is probably a faulty "system recovery disc".....
How did you solve your difficulty?

they have the recovery cd's but it'll cost you $20 bucks.
