View Full Version : Adaptec Software

Hello,

I use RegCleaner - a freeware program which keeps my
registry clean and shows when anything new appears there.
In the last week these Adaptec software items showed up:

1. Cdr4vsd
2. Components
3. Creator API
4. Adaptec Shared
5. SP9 Master Setup
6. Easy CD Engine

The only thing I can think might have brought them in is
the Microsoft Security Update CD I ordered and installed.

Would this software come as a part of the Microsoft
updates and does anyone know what these Adaptec items do?
I've gone to the Adaptec web site and can't get through to
ask them the questions without an assigned number.

George,

Those are from Adaptec EZCD Creator, a CD burner program.

I doubt the Security CD was responsible.

Do a Find/F&F on the CD. Windows Media Player9 comes with
a Roxio burner program. Roxio makes EZ-CD Creator. And
WMP9 comes on the update CD.
Last week I found whole bunch of something called backups
in a folder on a back drive that I very rarely open. And
the properties related them to EZ-CD Creator.
I have'nt use EZ in quit awhile so I couldn't figure why
they were there. They were encripted so I could'nt read
them. And they were in a folder that had no connection to
the burning program. So I just deleted them. But they were
on a non-OS drive. Don't know if I would have deleted them
so fast if they were on my C drive. At least without more
study.

The Security Update CD installs Windows Media Player 9, which contains an Adaptec
CD-Burning Plug-in, which is the likely source of the additions.

Hi Glen,

I tried to get the Security Update CD but the MS page doesn't
display properly. I search MS and got to this URL
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect to order it. But all I
get is the frame on the left. Used IE 5.5. Tried Netscape too, same
thing.

Is there another site for this or do I need to call them?

Thanks,

Bill Watt

Try this (it is operational - I checked).

http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp

If you still have trouble, try adding www.microsoft.com
to your trusted sites zone.

Thanks Hugh,

I got the same message with IE and Netscape -
"The site has errors and may not display properly"
I'll try the URL you list.

Try
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp

Put www.microsoft.com in the Trusted Zone, and check your settings if they are
Custom.

LOL...Oops! I see you already gave Bill the same info I just posted.

Next time I will read the other replies *before* I respond ;-)

Frankly, I'd just as soon see you continue as you are.

First, it is easier than having to read everything two or three times
and try to remember what has been answered and what hasn't.

Second, I believe that the people looking for help feel more secure
and reassured when they get the same counsel from more than one source.

Third, it provides as system of checks and balances. We ourselves can look
at the advice provided by others, and possibly find a better way,
or simply see where we misread a post and/or misdiagnosed a problem.

Windows Media Player uses the Adaptec CD recording engine to burn discs
from media files.

If you find some one that has one? copy it. It says you
can copy it. But not for resale. It would save MS postage.
Or go to your local library or State Employment office and
use their PC to order it on line.

Glad to hear it. Eventually you will get a notification
that it has shipped, but it may still take a few weeks
after that before you actually receive it.
