windows product code? se upgrade needed?

i just got a older copmuter w/ windows 98 got a modem
card and windows wont recognize it??? tried to e-mail ms
and it wont even use the product code## what do i do?????
a tech told me i need the 98 se upgrade? better pnp. how
do i get the upgrade????

You can get a Win 98 SE upgrade on Amazon and on EBay--but
it'll cost you. Don't get the full install, unless you
want to start over--which actually sounds like what you
may want to do. Don't buy someone's used or OEM package,
the new unopened software pkgs are about the same price...
