Min,Max,Close symbols changed

I'm running ME on a laptop. The desktop icons and text
are very small. I can't adjust this through the display
settings. The scroll bars have numbers in place of the up
and down arrows. The Min.Max, and Close buttons on the
windows are now alphabetic letters instead of the box,
the dash, and the X.
Does anybody know what happened and how I can get these
settings back to what they were??
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Regarding the Max/min/restore symbols issue, this is sometimes caused by a
missing/corrupted font.

Try:- "Description of and Troubleshooting the Marlett TrueType Font"

If the first part of the article doesn't fix it, note and try the section
near the bottom page, referring to the maximum number of fonts and the
suggestion of deleting the ttfcache file.
