I have been working on this for days
i have a realtek nic card running dhcp for my ip address.
I get a valid ip, gateway, subnetmask etc each time i boot up,
but cant ping the gateway/dhcp server ( one and the same )
I can see the me machine from the router too, (no ping to test with
there)
I cant ping it from any other machine on the network.

Ive disabled the ndis adapter on the mb, installed updates and fixes
( nice stuff btw carey). I uninstalled and reinstalled all networking
components, switched nics, edited the registry, reinstalled dll's from
a winme cd with msconfig/extract.
I popped in a 2nd hd with win2k and everything works fine with the
same hw.

Ive assigned ips dns and gateway, still nothing.
until... i was reinstalling the nic drivers and said NO to the
required reboot.
It works perfectly until i reboot, then its back to square one.
Short or putting my nic drivers instalation exe in startup, is there a
way to fix this?

to make it more frustrating the info for netstat -r and ipconfig /all
is identical before and after rebooting.

no combo of networking protocols seems to make a difference.
install driver, say no to reboot it works perfectly. reboot and im
dead.
theres no firewall, no proxy, system restore is off, scanned for
viruses and spyware, its all clean
any ideas would be appreciated
