Ive setup a home network between a Xp PC (Braodband Internet Access) and my
daughters millenium Edition.
Ive got the workgroup on mine and access her shared folders etc BUT she can
see my pc but not view mine, just got her Internet Gateway connected so she
can get Internet Access.
Any ideas on how she can view my shared folders? And will the internet
Gateway stay on?

Cheers

Lee

Do you have the Windows XP firewall turned on, or a third-party firewall
installed on your XP computer? If so turn it off and try again.

There are many possible solutions, Lee. Please reply to this message
in the news group (not by E-mail) with more information to help other
people understand the problem:

What does "see my pc but not view mine" mean? What exactly does she
see? How is she trying to view yours? What happens when she does it?
What is the complete text of the error message?

I fought with this problem for weeks and then installed NETBEIU. Here is a
link that will explain how to do that.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q301041

Some have said this is not the right way to fix this issue. All I can say
is that I found no other way to get my ME machine to access the XP one. I
have not had any network problems what so ever since installing the NETBEIU
protocol.

I had a suggestion, but decided it might not apply, if I made the wrong
assumptions. To clarify the matter, let me make a statement, and ask a
question; or three.

> Ive got the workgroup on mine and access her shared folders etc BUT she can
> see my pc but not view mine...

See but not view; see, as in she sees the icon for your computer after
double clicking on the workgroup icon in the "Entire Network"? Not view, as
in she can't view any of your shared resources when she double clicks on the
icon for your computer?

Is this Internet Gateway the IP address for your computer? It sounds like
you are using ICS, with your XP connecting to the Internet, and her ME going
through your XP to the Interenet.

> Gateway stay on?

Some, involving browse master; and, yes, the Internet Gateway should stay on
after any of the changes I might suggest.
