CAN'T DOWNLOAD PIX FROM CAMERA - HELP!

I have a new digital camera - a Fujifilm A210 - Took my
first Pix of my Grandson's BD - Installed the software -
prepared to download pix - connectected USB cable & keep
getting this mess - "The FINEPIXVIEWER.EXE file is linked
to missing report DDRAW.DLL:DirectDrawCreateEx." I have
updated Win 98. Called Fujifilm - They say it is an OS
prob. Can anyone HELLLPPPPP! Thanks!

DDRAW.DLL is part of DirectX. Also, expect USB problems if running 98 (1st
edition) rather than 98SE (2nd edition)

That said, you don't need to use Fuji's software except for the driver so
the OS recognizes the camera as another hard disk. Try this

1) run MSCONFIG and stop the FINEPIXVIEWER.EXE file from starting when
Windows starts. Or terminate it from the taskbar.
2) connect your camera using USB cable, turn it on as per normal for
downloading pics.
3) open My Computer and you should notice you have an additional "new" hard
disk (camera's memory card)
4) browse this new hard disk descending into the folders until you find your
pics.
5) open another instance of My Computer and browse to the folder on your
hard disk (original/old hd) you want to save the pictures to (e.g. My
Documents/My Pictures or whatever). Try to keep both windows viewable so you
can drag files from "new" to "old" hd.
6) on "new" hard disk select all the pics and using right button drag them
to "old" hard disk. when let off mouse button you should get a pop-up menu,
choose Move to copy the pictures and delete then from the camera's memory in
one go

Note : you'll then have to manually rename the pictures to meaningfull names
so the "next" time the "moved" files don't overwrite the previous pics.
Neccessary because Fuji doesn't track last number used (least my S602Z
doesn't) and starts over with sequence. This can be avoided by leaving the
last pic on the camera if it's a pain.
