View Full Version : Lexmark z515 printer doesn't see USB port

On my win98se computer when I try to print anything I get this error
message - Lexmark z515 printer incorrect port detected.

In Settings/printer the Lexmark is shown as default. Right clicking the
icon for properties and clicking details says the Lexmark is connected to
USB(Unkown Local Port).

In Control panel/Systems/Device Manager shows all USB ports working normal
and the USB printer shows the Lexmark working normal.

Of these settings the one that stands out is the USB(Unkown Local Port)
in Settings/printer. Trying to create a new port fails because windows
says any port name I try, like USB001 which is the name of the port that
the printer works on on my win2k machine, is an invalid port.

The printer works fine on my win2k machine.

Are there other settings or another way to select/name/assign ports?
Thanks

Your post did not actually say whether IBM
requires special drivers for USB connections
(that might be on the Win2K but not the Win98.)

Check the BIOS for the USB settings to make sure they are enabled.

The printer inst. manual on the CD doesn't say anything about USB 1 or USB
2. However, my camera required USB 2 and I downloaded the USB 2 patch and
it works on that machine.

Have you tried swapping USB ports with your camera? You could have a
defective port.

Yes I switched ports with the same result. I'm thinking it's the SiS chip
set with the motherboard that I'm using.

Update on My lexmark z515.
i just discover from a tech that there is a problem with the lexmark
z515 models, thats why it creates a problem with the usb ports with the
(Unknown Port) error,
even after talking with Lexmark, there representative admitted there is
a flaw in the cd included in the printer,
but they will not admit to these unless if you have gone to the extreme
like i did.
i have returned the printer back to the place where i purchased, the
store after a long explanation,
took back the printer.
so my recomendation is DO NOT BUY A LEXMARK PRINTER.
if you research the net, you will find there is lots of complaints
in tech support sites including microsoft site,
http://tinyurl.com/6vw6f
against these lexmark printers, regardless what OS you are running.
(AVOID the headaches)
