Do you have USB ports on your PC?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. Sorry it took so long to come
back to you. Yes got USB ports on PC. Troubleshoot has
suggested to go to Setup - Device Manager - then confirm
USB Controller is activated but USB doesn't appear on the
list.

Somehow your motherboard has 'lost' the USB port.....

I'd suggest you post in the WindowsMe Hardware newsgroup.

If it's a separate USB card, the easiest method is to turn off the PC,
uninstall the card, startup the PC without the card and let it enter
Windows, then turn off the PC again and reinstall the card, then again
startup and WindowsME should redetect the card and install the drivers. If
the USB ports are on the motherboard, you may need to install the
motherboard drivers or the onboard ports may have died. Either way, the
hardware newsgroup will be able to help further.

There's also the possibility that the USB ports were switched off in the
BIOS - especially in an older machine that originally shipped with Win 95
