View Full Version : Great difficulty reloading IE6.

I know I went through this last year, but it's cropped up again !
I had to reload WindowsME on my system (HD crash), and am now
trying to update from IE5.5 to IE6 (MSMoney 2003 requires 6.0).
It keeps failing the install of 6.0 from any user, even safe mode. It
says it can't install some of the components, etc. Any help would
be greatly appreciated. No AV running on it yet, I want to get this done
1st..
Thanks in advance, I'll check for solutions in this NG.

Try this first : Create a folder in My Documents and name it IEBak.
Navigate to Program Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information.
Move all of the files from there to IEBak.
Now try installing IE6. If it installs you can delete the entire
IEBak folder; if it does not, move all of the files back to
Program Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information .

If you reinstalled ME over itself without first removing IE6,
have a look here :

I had the same situation and all you have to do is open
your IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Tab and
UNCHECK "Automactically check for Internet Explorer
Updates".
I also just had to restore my computer and knew I had this
problem before and did this and it installed in 2 minutes.

Good Luck
