I am having a problem where after boot-up normally I am
unable to view the
contents of any folders. I have run stinger to check for
viruses, search and
destroy spybot, adaware looking for viruses/trojans and
the like.

It hasn't found anything. When I try to use the system
restore, it tries to
open a page, but remains blank. I have tried using
scanreg /fix, and it does
it's thing, and restarts, but same problem when
it boots up
normally.

When I boot up in safe mode, I can see everything, but
normal startup
nothing in any folder.

No guarantees, but did you try 'Removing'/re-installing your video drivers
to see if that helped?

See my reply to Rowf in the 'general' group

Copy of my original post Rowf - plus a bit extra at the end:-

"Odd that you can see them in Safe Mode but not in Normal Mode, which
suggests a video graphics adapter/driver issue.

Sounds like your Display Adapter driver is no longer being properly
recognised, is incorrectly set-up, or is corrupted.

Boot into Safe Mode and in Device Manager, 'Remove' any/all Display Adapters
and Monitors and then re-boot.
WinMe *should* re-detect (Plug&Play) your video card and monitor and then
should install the 'correct' drivers.

If it still doesn't help, you'll need to install the latest WinMe driver for
your Video Card (Adapter) which you should be available to download from the
card manufacturers web site."

BTW - have you updated IE recently? Although usually only affecting the
left-hand pane in Windows Explorer it * might* also be worth having a look
at these two KB articles:-

PIP: Missing Contents of Left Pane, Missing Graphics in Project, or "Invalid
Page Fault" Error Message
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281915
and note the solution of 'Repairing' Internet Explorer!!

Windows Explorer Does Not Display Item's Contents in Right Pane
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;179875

HTH and good luck
