Is it ethical, & or possible, to send select MSN, MVP
help responses directly to a reference file on my computer?

I've just recently found the MSN site. Some probs have
pretty much disabled my unit for 2 months; eg. 12-15 mins.
to click > cycle to next screen.
Hence, it is critical I continue my quest for sol'ns
using the fewest possible command strokes.
MSN entries in OE & Internet have been Godsends. I've
been able to absorb info and make notes from many (thank
you so much MVP contributers). But some of the most
promising are quite long and detail-intensive; eg.,
Sandi's June 5 opus @ "Stubborn--Favorites". This is all
new to me and v.much appreciated.

No problem saving them for your own use. No problem passing them on to
friends, co-workers, etc. If you want to repost any of them in public
forums, in part or in whole, attribution is customary, and if you use the
material in any other manner, first ask the person.

Have you seen *my* opus on "Clean Boot"?

>Thanks Gary,
Having to economize as I must on paging means I have to
consider each task carefully. Exploring brances along the
way is a luxury that has to wait until I unclog my
system's pipes. Right now, it takes about 45 min. just
to 'back arrow' 3 pages. Recovering from a single misstep
can cost me the best part of a day ..... which is my way
of apologizing for not reading your "opus" until I get
this mini-task @ "fini".
After reading your assurance that it is OK to copy
MSN bumph to file, I tried, unsuccessfully.
With the thread highlighted on Sandy's bit, I clicked
|Find| in MIExplr., |Save|, watched the left-hand folder
waft paperwork to the fight-hand folder, amd was alerted
that the page could not be saved.
With deference to my technical constraints at present,
can y'al "click me" through?

First, might I suggest that you use Outlook Express to access these
newsgroups instead of MSN. Assuming you have OE installed, click on the
following link:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion

Once you have subscribed to this group, the entire MSNews server will be at
your fingertips. It's faster, saner, and easier to deal with than by using
any web-based interface like that you are currently enduring.

As for copying info from web pages that won't save, (it's not uncommon), use
your mouse to highlight the text you wish to save and press Ctrl-C to Copy
the text. Then go to your desktop, right-click on any empty spot, choose
New=>Text Document (opens a new Notepad document), name it, open it, then
use Ctrl-V to Paste in the text. Save and catalog.

>Gary,
Nifty; I'll give it a go.
I did try the OE., Newsgroup approach just last
Wednesday; seemed the sensible thing to do. But my
unit "hung" on registration page a couple of times and I
had to give up and try this "back door" (no offence)
approach. At least I have access.
I also tried Forum.Spyware (`a la Spybot S&D which I
use), Reg'n page hung. And Usenet; I couldn't activate an
account there either, despite vigourous help from my IP
dude.
Further, I couldn't effect the down'ld from Hijack This
to log prob's; or, specifically, the req'd unzip file got
deleted/ corrupted/ disabled (????) when I installed W98
Security update, Feb 2004 edit'n .
As you can gather by now, I am in a Quantum Gravity
Loop of Catch 22's.

If I was going to save anything from here I
would l-click and highlight it then r-click
select copy. Now go start, programs, acessories,
notepad, and when it is open r-click and past.
Now before closing notepad go to topleft corner
file, save as the rest is up to you. I have a file
named Win Help where I keep things to copy and
past here to help when I can.
Here are the tools I use and trust they might
help clean thing up for you.
Get AIDA
http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php
Get Laversoft
http://lavasoft.element5.com/purchase/
Get EasyCleaner
http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
Get TClock
http://www.rcis.co.za/dale/
Get startup
http://mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
Hope this helps.

You may simply have tried to be too helpful. Logon to MS News is anonymous.
All you put in as a "Handle" and an email address--a *bogus*, impossible,
email address. Don't want to use your real email address and you don't want
to use one that might conceivably be someone else's email address.
