I have just reinstalled win 98 and no other applications
as yet. When booting up the following message is
displayed:

"Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run
windows or a windows application.

The system registry or system.ini file refers to this
device file, but the device file no longer exists.

vnetbios.vxd"

Can anyone suggest what application/windows component
requires this file, so i can reinstall to repair. Or is
there anything else i can do?

Thanks in advance.

This is definatly part of windows OS. Open "System File
Checker" Select "Extract one file..."
Type vnetbios.vxd in the window. and then click start at
the bottom. Restore from Win98 disk. To C:\Windows\System.

Is your's an OEM version of W98 ? Mine is, and it often used to complain
about not finding networking files, and I could never work out which module
I'd chosen during W98 install/set up, that caused it.

regards, Richard
